Description

MTL4850 Multiplexer Module MTL

MTL4850 Multiplexer Module MTL

Introduction

This instruction manual describes the procedures for installing, connecting, checking and maintaining the MTL4850 HART® maintenance system, which is a simple interface between smart devices in the field and HART instrument management software running on a PC. The following sections are outlined here. Section 2 describes the system and the solutions available Section 3 covers some safety aspects. Section 4 deals with the installation of carriers and mounting backplanes Section 5 describes installing and configuring the modules Section 6 provides information on fault finding, and maintenance Section 7 introduces software for the MTL4850 System. See the MTL web site (www.mtl-inst.com) for the full specifications of the MTL4850 system components and accessories, and the MTL4500 Series isolators mentioned in this manual.

DESCRIPTION

The MTL4850 HART Maintenance System enables a user to calibrate, configure and maintain an entire network of ‘smart’ field devices from a single workstation. The key element that makes this possible is the MTL4850 module, which provides the multiplexing for the individual field devices, making each one addressable and identifiable from the workstation. The other important element is the terminal circuit board that simplifies the interconnection of the field devices to the MTL4850 module. A range of terminal boards and backplanes has been designed to suit most general applications but custom versions can also be designed to suit individual OEMs and their applications.

The thermal engineer on duty should conduct daily inspections of the systems within their jurisdiction, fill in system operation logs, and promptly handle any problems found. The inspection content is as follows:
(1) The environmental temperature and humidity of the DCS control cabinet should meet the manufacturer’s requirements. The control cabinet with a cooling fan should operate normally. Fans that are abnormal during operation should be immediately replaced or necessary measures should be taken, and the cleanliness and integrity of the filter screen should also be checked.
Based on the operation practice of DCS in recent years, it has been found that excessive humidity can lead to a decrease in the insulation of electronic equipment, which can easily lead to an increase in DPU switching frequency and a decrease in the reliability of modules such as I/O. Therefore, humidity inspection in the electronic equipment room is an indispensable item for daily inspection. Once the humidity exceeds the standard, immediately try to reduce the humidity to ensure that various modules can work reliably.
(2) Check that the operation status of the engineer station, operator station, communication network, power supply, and all modules is normal; Redundant devices should be in an active state.
(3) Check the alarm and sequence of accident records (SOE) of the system; Check that the printing paper is sufficient and that the clock is synchronized with the DCS system, DCS system, and DEH system. Regularly change passwords.
