Diagnostics

The I/O Modules perform comprehensive internal diagnostic tests as an essential part of ensuring that the I/O can carry out the required safety function. If the FB-88XX I/O Module’s internal diagnostics detect a fault that would prevent the SLS from carrying out its safety function, then it will initiate a controlled shutdown. A controlled shutdown has two objectives – firstly, to ensure that the I/O Module enters its failsafe mode; and secondly, to record sufficient data to allow the reason for the shutdown to be determined. If a SAFETY I/O Module enters a controlled shutdown, then all I/O channels are deactivated: input channels are not scanned; and output channels are de-energised.

Live maintenance

SAFETY I/O Modules can be removed and replaced in a Class 1, Division 2 or Zone 2 hazardous area – once the relevant Bussed Field Power (BFP) connection has been isolated using an appropriate hazardous area switch. Removing and replacing the Modules does not interrupt the operation of the other parts of the node. If a Module is replaced by another Module of identically the same type, then no intervention is required for the System to begin operating normally once the Bussed Field Power is restored.

Circulating fluidized bed boilers are widely used in many thermal power plants due to their advantages of low consumption, high efficiency, wide adaptability to coal quality, and large load regulation range. But to ensure these advantages, in addition to having a good set of circulating fluidized bed boilers and supporting auxiliary equipment, it is also necessary to be equipped with high-performance distributed control systems. At present, the performance of circulating fluidized bed boilers and auxiliary equipment produced by various domestic manufacturers has met the specified requirements, but the control systems used are uneven, and even some still use conventional instrument control. Conventional instruments used to control chain boilers can still meet the requirements, but controlling the operation of circulating fluidized bed boilers appears to be somewhat inadequate.

This is due to the following reasons: 1) The control parameters of circulating fluidized bed boilers are too many, and using conventional instrument control will cause too many control instruments, which can easily cause confusion for operators and is not conducive to quick operation and control; 2) The combustion control principle of a circulating fluidized bed boiler is complex. If conventional instrument control is used, it will result in heavy workload and responsibility for operators, making it difficult to master the coordination of combustion control in the boiler, increasing the probability of failure, and easily leading to coking and shutdown due to poor control, causing huge economic losses to the power plant. In order to meet the needs of power plant control, domestic DCS manufacturers have effectively improved the DCS control theory of circulating fluidized beds by continuously absorbing and drawing on advanced experience, fully reflecting the advantages of DCS control system reliability, real-time performance, and accuracy.
