Good grounding of equipment and control systems is not only a necessary “shock protection” measure to ensure personal safety, but also an important means to suppress interference, reduce electromagnetic interference, and improve system reliability. It must be taken seriously in the design and construction stages.

The general requirements for grounding the PLC control system are as follows:
① The system grounding must be good, and for PLC control systems, the grounding resistance should be less than 4Q.
② The grounding wire must have a sufficiently large wire diameter. For independent installation of PLC basic units, yellow/green wires with a cross-sectional area of more than 2.5nim2 should be used to connect to the system protective grounding wire (PE).
③ In modular PLC structures, the grounding connection between each module and the rack can generally be maintained through the grounding terminal of the module itself, ensuring good grounding between each module and the rack. However, the grounding between the rack and the system protection ground should be ensured, and yellow/green wires with a cross-sectional area of 2.5mm2 or more should be used to connect to the system protection ground wire (PE).
④ The grounding of other control devices in the system (such as drivers, frequency converters, etc.) must also comply with the specifications and be independently grounded.
According to the DIN EN standard, the wire diameters of the grounding wires for each control device are shown in Tables 7-4.1. The term ‘through fixed connections’ in the table refers to the requirements for grounding the control device to a well grounded electrical cabinet (component installation board) through a conductive base.
⑤ The shielding layer, metal hoses, cable trays (pipes), and junction boxes of various shielded cables in the system must be well grounded.
