This chapter explains how to install the 6410 stepper motor drive.

Note: Read this manual completely to effectively and safely operate the 6410 unit.

 

The 6410 drive requires STEP and DIRECTION inputs. Select an indexer that provides, as a minimum, these commands. A compatible indexer will provide the capability to drive the input circuits shown in Section 2.5.3. For most applications that operate at speeds above 300 rpm, an indexer that can ramp the step frequency is required.

 

The 6410 is designed for use with Pacific Scientific’s line of hybrid stepper motors or most other 2 phase stepper motors. The drive works with either the standard line or the enhanced high performance line of stepper motors. The motor winding current rating must be compatible with the output current of the drive package. Refer to the Torque/Speed Curves in the Pacific Scientific “Motion Control Solutions Catalog” or contact your local Pacific Scientific distributor for sizing and motor compatibility assistance.

 

Issues that need to be noted after changing the configuration:
1) When the physical link between MARK VI and OVATION is interrupted, such as when the network cable is disconnected or the CRM operating station crashes, communication faults will still occur in OVATION. Unlike before, when the link returns to normal, communication can self heal.
2) When the CRM station performs REBUILD operation and the GSM service is interrupted, the communication volume will momentarily show bad points. If the DCS control logic uses communication volume, it will have a certain impact on the relevant automation. Therefore, it is not recommended to perform REBUILD operation when the unit is online. If online REBUILD is necessary, the operating personnel must monitor the relevant automation with communication participation, such as auxiliary steam pressure control, gas heater temperature control, etc. Prevent adjustment fluctuations caused by bad points.
3) We suggest changing the default rules of the OVATION DCS logic configuration to remove the bad point detection function of the relevant automatic adjustment module that includes communication volume. This way, the operation of the unit’s relevant automatic system will not be affected by the instantaneous bad points of communication volume, that is, the REBUILD operation of the CRM station can be carried out at any time. After changing the TCP protocol startup configuration of the OVATION controller network, after testing, it was found that when the data link between MARK VI and OVATION is interrupted, communication can be automatically restored to normal in a timely manner without the need to restart the controller, eliminating manual intervention after communication failures.

In recent years, industrial Ethernet technology has successfully entered the industrial control field from the office and commercial fields due to its advantages such as high transmission speed, large capacity, low cost, good openness, and flexible network topology. Both domestic and foreign power equipment suppliers support the Ethernet communication protocol in their developed products, but compared to traditional hardwired methods, Ethernet communication still has gaps in reliability and real-time performance; Therefore, for important parameters and protection signals of the unit, it is still customary to use hardwired methods in China.
