Function Description:

Description: For applications requiring exceptional availability comparable to safety instrumented systems, the 3500 Series Machinery Protection System introduces the Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Relay Module. This module utilizes three independent relays to drive a single relay output, operating in conjunction with a specialized TMR Rack Interface Module and three monitor modules. The TMR Relay Module offers 2-out-of-3 voting for inputs, ensuring robust redundancy.

Key Features:

  1. Alarm Drive Logic:
    • Each relay on the TMR Relay Module features “Alarm Drive Logic” programmed using AND and OR logic.
    • Utilizes alarming inputs (alerts and dangers) from any monitor channel or a combination of monitor channels in the rack.
    • Programming is performed using the 3500 Rack Configuration Software, allowing customization for specific application needs.
  2. Functionality:
    • The TMR Relay Module consists of two main components: the TMR Relay Module (quantity of two) and the TMR Relay I/O Module.
    • Once programmed, the two TMR Relay Modules function in parallel, offering redundant functionality.
  3. Component Purpose:
    • TMR Relay Module:
      • Drives three independent Alarm Contact Signals for each of the four relay channels.
      • Alarm Drive Logic is programmed individually for each relay channel via the 3500 Rack Configuration Software.
      • Evaluates three separate data paths simultaneously, producing three Alarm Contact Signals for redundancy.
    • TMR Relay I/O Module:
      • Receives Alarm Contact Signals from the TMR Relay Module.
      • Validates Alarm Contact Signals and passes them to the appropriate systems.
      • Ensures redundancy and reliability by working in parallel with the TMR Relay Module.

Functioning of TMR Relay Module: Within a TMR Rack, three monitors provide simultaneous alarm signals via separate data paths. The TMR Relay Module independently evaluates each data path, generates three Alarm Contact Signals, and passes them to the TMR Relay I/O Module. If the OK Status for a data path is NOT OK, the associated Alarm Contact Signal is marked as invalid.

Conclusion: The TMR Relay Module enhances system reliability by implementing triple redundancy and sophisticated Alarm Drive Logic, meeting the demanding requirements of applications with extremely high availability standards.
