Description

ZYGO 7701 Wiring Instructions

  1. Wiring Preparation & Safety Precautions

Before starting wiring, disconnect all power sources (AC/DC) to prevent electric shock or component damage. Ensure the operating environment meets ZYGO 7701’s specifications: temperature range 0°C to 40°C, relative humidity ≤85% (non-condensing), and no exposure to corrosive gases or strong electromagnetic interference.

Use qualified wiring materials: 24AWG-18AWG shielded cables for signal lines (to reduce interference) and 18AWG-14AWG insulated cables for power lines (to handle rated current). Prepare tools such as wire strippers, crimpers, and torque screwdrivers (0.3-0.5 N·m torque range) for secure terminal connections.

Verify the ZYGO 7701 terminal block labels (marked on the module front panel) to confirm the function of each terminal (power, communication, sensor input, etc.) before wiring.

  1. Power Supply Wiring

The ZYGO 7701 requires a DC power supply with a rated voltage of +12VDC to +24VDC (±10% tolerance) and a minimum current capacity of 2A. Identify the power terminals: “VIN+” (positive input) and “VIN-” (negative input), with a dedicated “GND” terminal for ground connection.

Connect the positive pole of the power supply to the “VIN+” terminal and the negative pole to the “VIN-” terminal. Ensure correct polarity—reversed connections may permanently damage the module.

Connect the system ground (protective ground) to the “GND” terminal using a short, thick cable (preferably 16AWG or thicker) to ensure stable grounding and reduce electromagnetic interference.

After wiring, insulate the power connections with heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape to prevent short circuits between terminals.

  1. Communication Interface Wiring

The ZYGO 7701 supports two standard communication interfaces for data transmission and configuration: RS232 and Ethernet. Select the appropriate interface based on system requirements.

3.1 RS232 Communication Wiring

Identify the RS232 terminals: “TXD” (transmit data), “RXD” (receive data), and “GND” (communication ground). Use a 3-wire RS232 cable (shielded) for connection to a PC or controller.

Connect the ZYGO 7701’s “TXD” terminal to the receiving device’s “RXD” terminal, and the “RXD” terminal to the receiving device’s “TXD” terminal. Connect the “GND” terminals of both devices to ensure common ground.

Set the communication parameters consistently on both the module and the connected device: baud rate (default 9600 bps), data bits (8), stop bits (1), and parity (none).

3.2 Ethernet Communication Wiring

Locate the RJ45 Ethernet port on the ZYGO 7701 (labeled “ETH”). Use a Cat5e or higher shielded twisted-pair cable to connect to a switch, router, or PC Ethernet port.

Ensure the cable is properly crimped (T568A or T568B standard) for reliable data transmission. The module supports auto-negotiation (10/100 Mbps) and is compatible with TCP/IP protocols (IPv4).

Configure the module’s IP address (static or dynamic via DHCP) through the configuration software or web interface to enable network communication.

  1. Sensor Input Wiring

The ZYGO 7701 is designed for high-precision interferometric measurements and supports connections to ZYGO-compatible interferometer sensors (e.g., laser head modules). Identify the sensor terminals: “SENSOR IN” (signal input), “SENSOR GND” (sensor ground), and “REF IN” (reference signal input).

Connect the sensor’s signal output cable to the “SENSOR IN” terminal and the sensor’s ground wire to “SENSOR GND”. For dual-channel measurements, connect the reference sensor’s output to the “REF IN” terminal.

Use shielded differential cables for sensor wiring, with the shield grounded at both ends (or single-ended at the module side) to minimize signal distortion from external interference. Keep sensor cables as short as possible (maximum length ≤10 meters) to maintain measurement accuracy.

  1. Grounding & Shielding Wiring

Implement a single-point grounding system: Connect the ZYGO 7701’s “GND” terminal to the control cabinet’s main ground bus (ground resistance ≤4Ω) to avoid ground loops.

For all shielded cables (power, communication, sensor), connect the shield to the module’s ground terminal or the cabinet’s ground bus. Ensure the shield is not exposed or short-circuited to other terminals.

Separate power cables and signal cables by at least 10cm to prevent electromagnetic coupling; avoid running them in the same conduit or cable tray unless shielded appropriately.

  1. Post-Wiring Inspection

Visually inspect all connections: Confirm terminal screws are tightened to the specified torque (0.3-0.5 N·m) to prevent loose contacts, and ensure no bare wires are exposed (trim excess wire length if necessary).

Verify wiring correctness: Cross-check terminal labels against the ZYGO 7701 technical manual to ensure no polarity reversals (especially for power and RS232 lines) or incorrect sensor connections.

Perform a continuity test using a multimeter to check for short circuits between terminals (e.g., VIN+ and GND) and confirm proper signal path continuity for communication and sensor lines.

After inspection, power on the module and check the power indicator (steady green indicates normal power supply). Verify communication connectivity and sensor signal reception via the configuration software to confirm successful wiring.
