The speed set point can be remotely adjusted via an analog signal by configuring the Remote Speed Set Point analog input function. This enables process control systems or distributed plant control systems to set the speed set point from a remote location.
The remote speed set point input has a direct impact on the 505’s speed set point. The maximum rate at which the remote input signal can alter the speed set point is programmable. When the remote set point is activated, the speed set point will change at a significantly slower rate until the two settings align, after which the speed set point will be allowed to change at the maximum programmed rate.
The range of the Remote Speed Set Point (RSS) is determined by the programmed 4 mA and 20 mA settings of the analog input. The RSS range can be adjusted in Service mode (under REMOTE SPEED SETTINGS) but cannot exceed the minimum and maximum governor speed set point values.
As RSS is a secondary speed setting function, the Speed PID must control the 505’s LSS bus to allow RSS to position the actuator. In generator applications (when so configured), RSS will not take control unless both breakers are closed and the Speed PID is in control. In non-generator applications, the turbine speed must reach the minimum governor speed before RSS can take control. When RSS is enabled, the Cascade and Auxiliary controls (if configured with enable/disable functionality) are automatically disabled.
The Remote Speed Set Point can be enabled or disabled via the 505 keypad, an external contact, or Modbus. The most recent command from any of these three sources determines the enabled/disabled state, regardless of whether it came from the keypad or another device.
A contact input can be programmed to act as an external “Remote Speed Set Point Enable” function. When this programmed contact is open, RSS is disabled; when closed, RSS is enabled. After a trip condition is cleared, the contact can be either open or closed. If the contact is open, it must be closed to enable RSS. If the contact is closed, it must be opened and then reclosed to enable the RSS function.
If the milliamp signal to the Remote Speed Set Point input is out of range (below 2 mA or above 22 mA), an alarm will activate, and the Remote Speed Set Point will be suspended until the input signal is corrected and the alarm is cleared.
