UL Certification Overview
- Certified Models: S7xx0 servo amplifiers (UL file number: E217428)
- Non-Certified Models: S7xx6 servo amplifiers (not listed under UL)
- UL Standards Compliance:
- UL 840: Specifies air and insulation creepage spacings for electrical equipment and printed circuit boards.
- UL 508C: Defines minimum design requirements for electrically operated power conversion equipment (e.g., frequency converters, servo amplifiers) to mitigate fire, electric shock, and personal injury risks.
- Certification Scope: Applies only to the device’s mechanical and electrical construction.
- Validation Process: Technical conformance to U.S. standards is verified by independent UL inspectors via type testing and regular checkups.
- Customer Obligation: No additional UL-specific requirements beyond the installation and safety notes in the documentation.
UL Marking Requirements
- Wire Specifications:
- Copper wire only (60°C or 75°C rated).
- Class 1 wire only.
- Terminal Tightening Torque:
- X0, X8, X9 terminals: 0.7 – 0.8 Nm (6.20 to 7.08 lbf·in)
- Environmental Rating: For use in pollution degree 2 environments.
- Protection Features:
- Solid state motor overload protection (triggers at 130% of full load current).
- Integral solid state short circuit protection (does NOT provide branch circuit protection).
- Branch circuit protection must comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local codes.
- No motor over-temperature sensing included.
- Circuit Capability: Suitable for circuits delivering max. 42kA rms symmetrical amperes (at 480 Vac max voltage).

Common Bus Connection
- Drives may be connected via the “common bus” (DC bus link) per instructions on p. 66ff.
- AC input side grouping is allowed based on the max. input fuse (e.g., 3 x S7010 with one common 6A time-delay fuse).
- Important Note: The servo amplifiers are tested in a defined configuration with system components described in this documentation. Any deviation from the specified configuration/installation requires the customer to conduct new measurements for regulatory compliance.
