Description
Wiring Instructions for PR6423/000-101-CN
- Wiring Prerequisites
Ensure the sensor (PR6423/000-101-CN) is compatible with a matching preamplifier (recommended models: CON011, CON021, or CON031 series).
Use shielded twisted-pair cable (minimum 2-core, 0.5 mm² cross-section) to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Power off the control system (DCS/PLC) and preamplifier before wiring to avoid short circuits or component damage.
Verify the sensor’s cable length (factory-standard: 10 m for “-101” suffix; custom lengths available per order).
- Pin Assignment (Sensor Connector)
The PR6423/000-101-CN features an M12 5-pin male connector (IP65-rated). Pin definitions are standardized for Epro preamplifiers:
Pin Number Function Description Preamplifier Connection
1 Power Supply (+24V DC) Positive input (V+)
2 Signal Output (Analog) Signal input (SIG)
3 Ground (GND) Common ground (GND)
4 Not Used (NC) No connection
5 Shield (Cable Shield) Shield grounding (SHLD)
- Step-by-Step Wiring Procedure
3.1 Sensor to Preamplifier Connection
Strip the sensor cable’s outer sheath (3–5 cm) to expose the inner twisted-pair wires and shield layer.
Connect the sensor’s pins to the preamplifier’s corresponding terminals (refer to the preamplifier’s datasheet for terminal labels):
Sensor Pin 1 → Preamplifier V+ (24V DC power input).
Sensor Pin 2 → Preamplifier SIG (signal input channel).
Sensor Pin 3 → Preamplifier GND (power/signal ground).
Sensor Pin 5 → Preamplifier SHLD (cable shield grounding; do not connect to power ground directly).
Secure the M12 connector by tightening the locking nut to ensure a waterproof and vibration-resistant connection (torque: 0.5–0.8 N·m).
3.2 Preamplifier to Control System (DCS/PLC)
Connect the preamplifier’s power output terminal to the 24V DC power supply (ensure correct polarity: +24V to V+, GND to GND).
Connect the preamplifier’s signal output terminal (e.g., 4–20 mA or ±10V) to the control system’s analog input module:
For 4–20 mA signals: Use 2-wire or 4-wire configuration per the preamplifier’s specifications.
For ±10V signals: Ensure the control system’s input impedance matches the preamplifier’s output impedance (typically 10 kΩ).
Ground the preamplifier’s chassis to the system’s protective ground (PE) to prevent static buildup.
3.3 Shield Layer Handling
The cable’s shield layer must be single-point grounded (connect only to the preamplifier’s SHLD terminal; avoid grounding both ends to prevent ground loops).
Ensure the shield layer does not contact power wires or signal wires to avoid short circuits.
- Wiring Checks & Notes
After wiring, use a multimeter to verify:
No short circuits between power, signal, and ground wires.
Correct resistance (≥1 MΩ) between the sensor’s probe tip and ground (to confirm insulation integrity).
Avoid running the sensor cable parallel to high-voltage cables (≥1 kV) or motor cables; maintain a minimum distance of 30 cm if crossing is unavoidable.
For hazardous area applications (ATEX-certified environments), ensure all wiring complies with explosion-proof standards (e.g., using flameproof cable glands).
The sensor’s measurement range is affected by cable length; do not extend or cut the factory-supplied cable without consulting Emerson Epro technical support.
