3. RAM5500 Module Installation Procedure
Follow these steps to safely install or upgrade the RAM5500 module on the MVME5500:
ESD Protection PreparationAttach an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) strap to your wrist. Secure the other end of the strap to the system chassis (as a ground reference). Maintain this connection throughout the installation to prevent electrostatic damage.
System Power Down
Perform a proper operating system shutdown.
Turn off AC/DC power to the system.
Disconnect the AC power cord or DC power lines from the system.
Remove the system chassis cover(s) to access the VME card slots.
Remove the MVME5500 Host BoardCarefully extract the MVME5500 from its VME card slot. Lay the board flat on a static-free surface, with connectors P1 and P2 facing you.
Inspect the RAM5500 ModuleVerify that standoffs are pre-installed in all four mounting holes on the RAM5500 module (standoffs ensure proper alignment and mechanical stability).
Align the RAM5500 with the MVME5500Align the RAM5500’s standoffs and P1 connector with the corresponding mounting points and connector socket on the MVME5500 host board. Gently press the module into place until the connector is fully seated.
Secure the RAM5500 with ScrewsFlip the MVME5500-RAM5500 assembly over. Use four short Phillips screws to fasten the RAM5500’s standoffs to the host board (tighten to a moderate torque—do not over-tighten to avoid damaging the boards).
Reinstall the Host BoardInsert the MVME5500 (with the attached RAM5500) back into its original VME card slot. Ensure the host board is fully seated in the backplane connectors (avoid bending or damaging connector pins).
System Reassembly & Power-Up
Replace the system chassis cover(s).
Reconnect the AC power cord or DC power lines.
Turn on the system power and verify proper boot (confirm memory recognition via the system BIOS or diagnostic tools).
