The system enclosure accommodates two peripheral configuration options:

Option 1: Up to three 3 1/2-inch peripherals (typically a streaming tape drive and one or two 3 1/2-inch Winchester disk drives).
Option 2: One 5 1/4-inch streaming tape drive and one 3 1/2-inch Winchester disk drive.

The system supports 48MB to 344MB of disk storage capacity.

3.1 Front Panel (Typical Configuration)

A front view of one system configuration is shown in Figure 2-1, with the following identifiable components:

3.2 Rear Panel (Configuration-Dependent)

The number of rear-panel connectors varies by system configuration. Typical connectors include:

MVME712A Module Connectors: Four RS-232C connectors.
- The leftmost connector is for connecting the system console terminal.
- The connector labeled “TIY01” is normally used for the internal modem and becomes unavailable if the remote maintenance feature is installed. It can alternatively connect a terminal or printer, but this requires configuration changes and has limitations.
Additional RS-232C Serial Connectors: Up to sixteen connectors for serial terminals, printers, and modems. May include two sets labeled SP1 to SP8, corresponding to the eight ports on each of two MVME332XT modules.
MVME335 Module Connectors: Four RS-232C serial connectors.
MVME712B Module Connectors: External SCSI and Ethernet connectors.
Optional Connector: One phone jack for connecting the internal modem to the remote maintenance facility.
Power Connector: One power cord connector.
