1. PCI Expansion

MVME2700-712-IO modules feature a 64-bit PCI connection to support PCI expansion carriers such as the Motorola PMCspan.

2. Memory Modules

The MVME2700-712-IO adopts a modular memory design, with mezzanine arrays supporting add-on DRAM.

Memory capacity ranges from 16MB to 256MB.
RAM200 expansion modules enable field upgrades of memory capacity without requiring additional VME slots.

3. Transition Modules

Two artwork variants of the MVME2700-712-IO are available, each compatible with different transition modules to meet diverse I/O requirements.

3.2 MVME761 Transition Module

This module offers access to multiple industry-standard interfaces via dedicated connectors.

Interfaces & Connectors:
- IEEE 1284 parallel port (industry-standard connector).
- 10BaseT/100BaseT port (via RJ-45 connector).
- 2 x DB-9 connectors (for asynchronous serial ports configured as EIA-574 DTE).
- 2 x HD-26 connectors (for sync/async serial ports, labeled “Serial 3” and “Serial 4” on the front panel).
Serial Port Configurability: Serial 3 and Serial 4 can be individually configured by the user as EIA-232, EIA-530, V.35, or X.21 (DCE or DTE) via the installation of Motorola Serial Interface Modules (SIMs).
P2 Adapter Support:
- 3-row P2 adapter: Compatible with 8-bit SCSI.
- 5-row P2 adapter: Supports 16-bit SCSI and PMC I/O.

3.3 MVME712M Transition Module

This module provides basic I/O interfaces and supports legacy system compatibility and function expansion.

- Centronics® parallel port (industry-standard connector).
- AUI port.
- 4 x DB-25 connectors (for async/sync serial ports, jumper-configurable as EIA-232 DCE or DTE).
P2 Adapter Support:
- Standard 3-row P2 adapter: Compatible with 8-bit SCSI.
- Special P2 adapter board: Replaces the traditional 3-row P2 adapter, enabling access to additional user-definable I/O pins via the 5-row VME64 extension connector and supporting PMC I/O pin access.
Variants: Multiple MVME712M variations are available, corresponding to different combinations of I/O and connectors.
