Both versions of the base board provide parallel I/O connections. For MVME2700-3351 compatible base boards, the parallel interface is implemented with a 36-pin Centronics-type socket connector. The connector is located on the MVME712M transition module.

The MVME2700-3351 provides both AUI and 10Base-T/100Base-TX LAN connections. For MVME712M-compatible base boards, the LAN interface is an AUI connection implemented with a DB15 connector (J6) located on the MVME712M transition module.
The PowerPC debugger, PPCBug, is a versatile tool used to evaluate and debug systems built around Motorola PowerPC microcomputers. Its primary uses are to test and initialize the system hardware, determine the hardware configuration, and boot the operating system. Facilities are also available for loading and executing user programs under complete operator control for system evaluation. The PowerPC debugger provides a high degree of functionality and user friendliness, and yet stresses portability and ease of maintenance. It achieves these features because it was written entirely in the C programming language, except where necessary to use assembler functions. PPCBug includes commands for display and modification of memory, breakpoint and tracing capabilities, a powerful assembler and disassembler useful for patching programs, and a ‘‘self-test at power-up’’ feature which verifies the integrity of the main CPU board. Various PPCBug routines that handle I/O, data conversion, and string functions are available to user programs through the System Call handler. PPCBug consists of three parts:
❏ A command-driven user-interactive software debugger, also called PPCBug.
❏ A set of command-driven diagnostics.”
❏ A user interface which accepts commands from the system console terminal.
When using PPCBug, you operate from within either the debugger directory (PPC1-Bug) or the diagnostic directory (PPC1-Diag) which tells you the current directory.
