’s I/O is connected to the VMEbus P2 connector. The main board links to transition boards via a P2 transition board and cables.
Supported transition boards: MVME712-12, MVME712-13, MVME712M, MVME712A, MVME712AM, and MVME712B. These boards are collectively referred to as MVME712X in this manual, unless specified separately.
Function of MVME712X: Provide configuration headers and industry-standard connectors for I/O devices.
3. Key ASIC Functions
3.1 VMEchip2
The VMEbus interface is implemented by the VMEchip2 ASIC, which integrates the following components:
Two tick timers and one watchdog timer.
Programmable map decoders for master and slave interfaces.
VMEbus-to-local bus and local bus-to-VMEbus DMA controllers.
VMEbus-to-local bus and local bus-to-VMEbus non-DMA programmed access interfaces.
VMEbus interrupter, system controller, interrupt handler, and requester.
Data Transfer Specifications:
Processor-to-VMEbus transfers: Support D8, D16, or D32.
VMEchip2 DMA transfers to VMEbus: Support D16, D32, D16/BLT, D32/BLT, or D64/MBLT.
3.2 PCCchip2
The PCCchip2 ASIC provides:
Two tick timers.
Interfaces to the LAN chip, SCSI chip, serial port chip, printer port, and BBRAM (Battery-Backed RAM).
3.3 MEMC040 & MCECC
MEMC040: A memory controller ASIC that provides a programmable interface for the parity-protected DRAM mezzanine board.
MCECC: A memory controller ASIC that provides a programmable interface for the ECC-protected DRAM mezzanine board.
4. Equipment Required for Complete System
To build a complete system using the MVME167-33B, the following equipment is required:
Terminal
Disk drives and their corresponding controllers
One MVME712X transition module (MVME712-12, MVME712-13, MVME712M, MVME712A, MVME712AM, or MVME712B), plus matching connecting cables and a P2 adapter
Compatible operating system
5. MVME167-33B Bug Debug Monitor Firmware
Installation: The MVME167-33B Bug (referred to as “167Bug”) debug monitor firmware is pre-installed in 2 of the 4 EPROM sockets on the MVME167 main module.
Core Functions:
Offers over 50 commands for debugging, upline/downline loading, and disk bootstrap loading.
Includes a full set of onboard diagnostics and a one-line assembler/disassembler.
Features a user interface that accepts commands from the system console terminal.
Supports System Mode, which provides options from a service menu.
Reference Documentation: For detailed operations, refer to the MVME167-33BBug Debugging Package User’s Manual and the Debugging Package for Motorola 68K CISC CPUs User’s Manual.
6. MVME712X Transition Module & Software Support
