1. Product Overview
The MVME147-1 is a double-high VME module built around the MC68030 microprocessor. It is optimized for operation in 32-bit VMEbus systems equipped with both P1 and P2 backplanes. 2. Core Features
The MVME147 incorporates a rich set of hardware and functional features, including:
  • SCSI Bus Controller: Equipped with Direct Memory Access (DMA) capability.
  • Floating-Point Coprocessor: Enhances numerical computation performance.
  • Timing & Monitoring Functions: Tick timer, watchdog timer, and a battery-backed time-of-day clock/calendar.
  • Battery-Backed Memory: 4KB of static RAM for persistent data storage.
  • ROM Support: Four ROM sockets for firmware and program storage.
  • VMEbus Interface: A32/D32 interface with system controller capabilities, enabling seamless integration into VMEbus architectures.

4. 147Bug Debug Monitor Firmware
The MVME147-1 is pre-equipped with the MVME147Bug (147Bug) debug monitor firmware, which is stored in two EPROMs on the module. The 147Bug firmware provides the following key capabilities:
  • Over 50 commands for debugging, upline/downline loading, and disk bootstrap loading.
  • A complete set of onboard diagnostic tools for system testing.
  • A one-line assembler and disassembler for low-level code operations.
4.1 User Interface
The 147Bug firmware features a user interface that accepts commands from the system console terminal. It also supports a System Mode, which offers a service menu with various operational options. For detailed information, refer to Appendix B: Debugger General Information.
5. MVME712 Transition Modules
The MVME712 series modules act as the interface bridge between the MVME147-1 and external peripheral devices. They connect the MVME147-1 to EIA-232-D serial devices, Centronics-compatible parallel devices, SCSI devices, and Ethernet devices. The MVME712 modules are connected to the MVME147 via a P2 adapter board and cabling.
5.1 Key Features of MVME712 Modules
As detailed in Table 1-4, the MVME712 modules include the following features:
  • Four multiprotocol EIA-232-D serial ports.
  • One independent printer port.
  • A shielded Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) connector for connecting external SCSI devices.
  • An Ethernet interface for network connectivity.
  • A built-in modem with a front-panel Telco modular jack (exclusive to MVME712-13 and MVME712AM models).
  • Front-panel Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection.
  • Front-panel Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) protection.
