Installation Instructions for the MVME147-012 Module

1. Turn off the power of all equipment and disconnect the power cable from the AC power source.
2. Remove the chassis cover according to the instructions in the equipment user’s manual.
3. Remove the filler panel(s) from the appropriate card slot(s) at the front and rear of the chassis (if the chassis is equipped with a rear card cage).
   • If the MVME147-012 is configured as the system controller, install it in the left-most card slot (Slot 1) to ensure correct initiation of the bus grant daisy-chain.
   • The MVME147-012 must be installed at the front of the chassis; the MVME712 transition module can be installed at either the front or rear of the chassis.

Note: Ethernet Station Address of the MVME147-012

• Each MVME147-012 is assigned a unique Ethernet station address in the format $08003E2xxxxx, where “xxxxx” represents the unique number allocated to the module (each MVME147-012 has a distinct “xxxxx” value).
• The Ethernet station address is displayed on a label attached to the MVME147-012’s backplane connector (P2). Additionally, the “xxxxx” portion of the address is stored in the BBRAM location $FFFE0778 as $2xxxxx.
• If Motorola networking software is running on the MVME147-012: It uses the “$2xxxxx” value from BBRAM to complete the full Ethernet station address ($08003E2xxxxx). You must ensure the “$2xxxxx” value is retained in BBRAM. If this value is lost, use the number on the P2 backplane connector label to restore it. Note that MVME147Bug includes the “LSAD” command for examining and updating the “xxxxx” value in BBRAM.
• If non-Motorola networking software is running on the MVME147-012: It must configure the 79C90 chip to use the Ethernet station address shown on the front panel label. This ensures the module has a globally unique Ethernet station address.

4. Insert the MVME147-012 into the selected card slot. Ensure the module is properly seated in the backplane connectors, then fasten it to the chassis using the provided screws.
   • For proper operation, a 32-bit VMEbus backplane is recommended. This ensures sufficient power distribution through the power pins on connectors P1 and P2.
5. If applicable, remove the IACK and BG jumpers from the header on the chassis backplane for the card slot where the MVME147-012 is installed.
6. Refer to the MVME712 user’s manual (provided with the MVME712 transition module) and install the transition board, P2 adapter board, and any required peripheral cables according to the instructions in the manual.
7. Connect the terminal used as the system console to the serial I/O port labeled SERIAL PORT 1/CONSOLE on the MVME712 module. To use 147Bug, configure the terminal with the following settings:
   • 8 bits per character
   • 1 stop bit per character
   • Parity disabled (no parity)
   • Baud rate: 9600 (to match the default baud rate of the MVME147-012 ports at power-up)
   • After power-up, the baud rate of PORT 1 can be reconfigured using the Port Format (PF) command in the 147Bug debugger.
