The features of the MVME117 include:

MC68010 10 MHz microprocessor
Socket for MC68881 floating point processor (the chip is provided onboard only for the MVME117-3FP; users may supply the chip for the MVME117-3 or MVME117-4)
Zero-wait-state dynamic RAM (512K) with parity disabled; one wait cycle with byte parity enabled
One multi-protocol RS-232C serial port via the P2 connector
One asynchronous front-panel debug serial port J6 (for terminal use only)
Two independent 8-bit input or output parallel ports (each with two handshake lines) via the P2 connector (can be configured together as a Centronics printer port)
Small Computer Systems Interface (SCSI) bus interface via the P2 connector (for firmware details, refer to the SCSI Firmware User’s Manual, MVMESCSIFW) (no SCSI chip on the MVME117-4 module)
Time-of-day clock/calendar with battery backup
Battery-backed 2K×8 (or user-substituted 8K×8) CMOS RAM
MC68B40 triple 16-bit timers: tick timer, watchdog timer, and user timer
Interrupt handler for onboard and offboard interrupt sources
System controller functions (can be jumper-disabled), including SYSCLK, Bus Time-Out (BTO), single-level bus arbiter, and system reset generator
Four 28-pin JEDEC-standard ROM/EPROM sockets for 8K×8 to 64K×8 components

The MVME117 can operate stand-alone (without a VMEbus chassis) using only a terminal, power supply, and optional SCSI disk

Once the MVME117 has been configured as required by the user, it can be installed in the system as follows:

Turn off the power to all equipment and disconnect the power cable from the AC power source.
Remove the chassis cover as instructed in the equipment user’s manual.
Remove the filler panel from the appropriate card slot at the front of the chassis.

If the MVME143 is configured as the system controller, it must be installed in the leftmost card slot (Slot 1) to correctly initiate the bus grant daisy chain and JACK daisy chain.
Insert the MVME117 into the selected card slot. Ensure the module is properly seated in the connectors on the backplane. Fasten the module to the chassis using the provided screws.
If a P2 adapter module is to be used, connect the adapter module in accordance with the instructions in the MVME708A Transition Module and MVME117/MVME117A P2 Adapter Board User’s Manual.
If an MVME708A/MVME708-1 transition module is used with the MVME117, install the MVME708A/MVME708-1 in accordance with the instructions in the MVME708A Transition Module and MVME117/MVME117A P2 Adapter Board User’s Manual.
Replace the cover and turn on the equipment power.
