The MVIP302 and MVIP303 are part of the IndustryPack family of modular
I/O components. They are based around the Signetics CMOS SCC2698 Octal
Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter. This component provides
eight channels of full-duplex asynchronous serial communications, baud rate
generators, state change detect logic, and four 16-bit counter/timers.
Level Conversion: EIA-232-D communication levels are implemented by CMOS MC14C88 transmitters and MC14C89 receivers.
Supported Signals: Each EIA-232-D channel supports 5 signals:
Transmit Data (TxD)
Receive Data (RxD)
Ready-To-Send (RTS)
Clear-To-Send (CTS)
Ground
Receiver Biasing: MC14C89 receivers are nominally biased at 1.5 volts, enabling reception of various input signal levels without additional interface circuitry (see Figure 1-2).
Power Protection: Protection diodes are integrated in the ±12V supply lines, allowing connection to powered equipment even when the IndustryPack is unpowered.
2. Interrupt & DMA Support
2.1 Interrupt Function
Vectored Interrupts: Fully supported with a shared 8-bit vector register.
Interrupt Mapping:
Channels a, b, c, d: Interrupt on IRQ0
Channels e, f, g, h: Interrupt on IRQ1
2.2 DMA Function
Supported Channels: DMA is only available for channels c and d.
Limitation: If DMA is enabled, the Request-To-Send (RTS) lines on channels c and d become unavailable.
3. Control & Access
3.1 Control Component
The IndustryPack is controlled by a single CMOS 22V10-type PAL.
3.2 Physical Connection
Connected via a standard 50-conductor ribbon cable.
3.3 Address Access
Data Width & Alignment: MVIP302 and MVIP303 are accessed via 8-bit bytes at odd addresses only.
Address Space: Typically accessed in the I/O space.
Register Maps: See Table 2-1 (MVIP302) and Table 2-2 (MVIP303) for register mappings. All addresses are offsets relative to the IndustryPack (IP) I/O base address, which is configured on the IP carrier board.
4. Channel Wiring & Functional Options
4.1 Channel Wiring
Signal Configuration: Each channel has 5 EIA-232-D lines, with identical wiring at the 50-pin connector:

Ground Connection: A common ground line for all channels is connected to the local logic ground.
4.2 Functional Flexibility
The two modem control lines (RTS and CTS) can be reconfigured for alternative modem/terminal control functions or used as general-purpose I/O.
5. Additional I/O Features
5.1 Pullup Resistor
A 1KΩ pullup resistor to +12V is available on pin 42. It can be externally connected to assert a “Mark” (true) signal to an EIA-232-D line.
5.2 General-Purpose Inputs
Quantity & Pinout: 8 general-purpose input lines (non-EIA-232 levels) are provided on pins 43–50.
Interface Type: Unbuffered CMOS logic inputs directly connected to the SCC2698B.
Functional Options: Programmable as general-purpose inputs or external inputs for counter/timer.
