Description
MM-CPNLTD-0 Wiring Methods & Step-by-Step Instructions
- Safety Precautions
Disconnect all power sources (24V AC and network power) before wiring to prevent electric shock or equipment damage.
Use only specified wire gauges: 18-22 AWG (0.75-0.34 mm²) for power and I/O connections; shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable for communication lines.
Ensure proper grounding (PE) to comply with electrical safety standards (UL/CSA/IEC).
Avoid routing wires near high-voltage cables or electromagnetic interference (EMI) sources.
- Pre-Wiring Preparation
2.1 Tools & Materials Required
Screwdriver (Phillips #2 or flathead, matching terminal screws)
Wire stripper (adjusted to 18-22 AWG)
Crimp tool (for ferrules, optional but recommended)
Shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable (for BACnet/IP or N2 Bus)
24V AC power cable (18 AWG minimum)
Ferrules (optional, for secure terminal connections)
Labeling tool (to mark wires for identification)
2.2 Equipment Check
Inspect the MM-CPNLTD-0 controller and terminal blocks for physical damage.
Verify compatibility with Metasys Building Management System (BMS) and expansion modules (if used).
Confirm power supply matches the controller’s electrical specifications (20.4-28.8V AC, 50/60 Hz).
- Wiring Procedures
Follow the terminal block diagram (refer to official product manual) for pin assignments. The controller uses pluggable terminal blocks for easy wiring.
3.1 Power Wiring (24V AC)
Locate the power terminal block labeled “L” (Line) and “N” (Neutral) on the controller.
Strip 6-8 mm (0.24-0.31 inches) of insulation from the power cable ends.
Connect the 24V AC power supply’s Line wire to the “L” terminal.
Connect the 24V AC power supply’s Neutral wire to the “N” terminal.
Tighten terminal screws to 0.5-0.8 N·m torque to ensure secure connections (avoid over-tightening).
(Optional) Install a fuse (3A maximum) in the Line wire for overcurrent protection.
3.2 Communication Wiring
The MM-CPNLTD-0 supports BACnet/IP (Ethernet) and Metasys N2 Bus communication. Choose one protocol based on system configuration:
3.2.1 BACnet/IP Wiring (RJ45 Ethernet)
Locate the RJ45 Ethernet port labeled “ETH” on the controller.
Use a shielded Cat5e/Cat6 cable (STP) for network connection.
Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the controller’s ETH port.
Connect the other end to the Metasys BMS network switch or router.
Ensure the cable is securely seated (listen for a “click” to confirm proper connection).
3.2.2 Metasys N2 Bus Wiring
Locate the N2 Bus terminal block labeled “N2+” and “N2-“.
Use shielded twisted-pair (STP) cable with 18-22 AWG conductors.
Connect the N2 Bus positive wire (+) to the “N2+” terminal.
Connect the N2 Bus negative wire (-) to the “N2-” terminal.
Strip 6 mm (0.24 inches) of insulation from the cable ends; avoid exposing bare conductors beyond the terminal.
Ground the cable shield at one end (preferably at the main controller or network hub) to reduce EMI.
Ensure bus termination: Install a 120Ω resistor at the first and last device on the N2 Bus (if not pre-installed).
3.3 I/O Wiring (Digital/Analog Inputs/Outputs)
Locate the I/O terminal blocks labeled “DI” (Digital Inputs), “DO” (Digital Outputs), “AI” (Analog Inputs), and “AO” (Analog Outputs). Follow the pinout below (confirm with official documentation for exact assignments):
3.3.1 Digital Inputs (DI)
Function: Connect to sensors (e.g., door contacts, float switches) or status signals.
Wiring:
Connect the sensor’s signal wire to the “DIx” terminal (x = channel number, e.g., DI1, DI2).
Connect the sensor’s common wire to the “COM” terminal (shared by all DI channels).
Use dry-contact sensors (no external power required) or active sensors (match voltage rating: 24V AC/DC).
3.3.2 Digital Outputs (DO)
Function: Control relays, valves, or actuators (relay outputs, normally open/normally closed).
Wiring:
Connect the load’s positive wire to the “DOx” terminal (x = channel number, e.g., DO1, DO2).
Connect the load’s negative wire to the power supply’s common terminal.
For high-current loads, use an external relay (controller’s DO rating: refer to product specs).
3.3.3 Analog Inputs (AI)
Function: Measure continuous signals (e.g., temperature, pressure, humidity sensors).
Wiring (4-20 mA or 0-10V):
For 4-20 mA sensors: Connect the sensor’s positive wire to “AIx+” and negative wire to “AIx-“.
For 0-10V sensors: Connect the sensor’s signal wire to “AIx+” and common wire to “AIx-“.
Use shielded cable to minimize noise; ensure sensor power (if required) is supplied separately.
3.3.4 Analog Outputs (AO)
Function: Control variable-speed drives, dampers, or proportional actuators.
Wiring (4-20 mA or 0-10V):
Connect the actuator’s positive wire to “AOx+” and negative wire to “AOx-“.
Match the output type (current/voltage) to the actuator’s input requirements (configured via Metasys software).
