Load Gain Adjustment
Prerequisites
Generator set must be operating isochronously
Generator set is not paralleled with other units
Power factor must be greater than 0.8
Adjustment Steps
Start the generator set and operate at full load.
Measure the load signal voltage and adjust the LOAD GAIN potentiometer to achieve 6 ± 0.1 Vdc.
Notes & Troubleshooting
If the load signal voltage cannot be raised to 6 Vdc (and phasing has been verified correct), use a lower load signal voltage. Ensure all generator sets in the system are set to the same full-load signal voltage.
When paralleled: Turning the LOAD GAIN potentiometer clockwise reduces the load carried by that generator set.
Stability issues at a specific load signal voltage:
Adjust the LOAD GAIN potentiometer counterclockwise to reduce the load signal voltage.
Set all other generator sets in the system to the same reduced load signal voltage.
Reducing load signal voltages for all units in the system lowers the load-sharing gain. This may decrease load-sharing sensitivity but improves load-sharing stability.
In cases of extremely poor system dynamics, load signal voltages may need to be reduced to as low as 3 Vdc for each unit.

9907-347 Woodward Droop Adjustment
Definition
Droop is typically expressed as a percentage, calculated as:Droop Percentage = [(No-Load Speed – Full-Load Speed) ÷ Rated Speed] × 100
General Guidelines
The DROOP potentiometer only requires adjustment when operating in droop mode.
Adjustment method depends on whether the generator load is an isolated load or connected to an infinite bus.
Once set, no re-adjustment is needed unless a different droop percentage is required.
2.1 Setting Droop for an Isolated Load
Open the OPEN FOR DROOP switch (or disconnect wires from terminals 13 and 14).
Start the engine and adjust the speed to rated speed with no load.
Apply full load to the generator set.
Adjust the DROOP potentiometer to achieve the desired speed.
Example:
For a 60 Hz system, 57 Hz at full load indicates 5% droop.
If only 50% loading is possible, 58.5 Hz at 50% load indicates 5% droop.
2.2 Setting Droop for an Infinite Bus
With the generator not paralleled, adjust the speed above rated frequency by the required droop percentage (e.g., set to 63 Hz for 5% droop on a 60 Hz system).
Mark the position of the speed setting potentiometer OR measure the DC voltage between TB27(+) and TB26(–), then re-adjust the engine speed to rated frequency.
Turn the DROOP potentiometer fully clockwise to maximum droop.
Synchronize the generator with the bus and parallel it.
Adjust the speed setting potentiometer back to the marked position (from Step 2) to increase load.
Slowly turn the DROOP potentiometer counterclockwise (decreasing droop) until 100% load is achieved.
Special Case: Partial Load Setup
If 100% load cannot be applied during adjustment, set the engine speed to match the desired droop percentage at the available load.
