Description
9907-169 Woodward Load Sharing and Speed Control
Applications
The 9907-169 Woodward Load Sharing and Speed Control (with Temperature Limiting or Process Limiting) is designed for electric generator systems requiring load sharing. It is compatible with diesel engines, gas engines, steam turbines, and gas turbines, and works seamlessly with all Woodward electronic controls.
9907-169 Woodward Description
The 9907-169 control features rugged construction engineered for high reliability in adverse environments. Two primary model variants are available:
Process Limiting models: Accept 4–20 mA or 1–5 Vdc control signals
Temperature Limiting models: Accept signals from Type K thermocouples
Both variants are offered in low-voltage and high-voltage supply configurations. A basic 2301A system requires additional components: a speed-sensing device, an actuator, an external power source, and voltage/current sensing mechanisms. Optional accessories can be integrated, including Speed and Phase Matching Synchronizers, Import/Export controls, and Generator Loading Controls.
9907-169 Woodward Features
The 9907-169 Woodward series incorporates multiple functional design features for versatile and reliable operation:
Wide dynamic adjustment range, compatible with diverse prime movers (diesel engines, gas engines, steam turbines, gas turbines)
Protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI)
Internal isolated power supply, enhancing noise immunity and preventing ground loops
Low-voltage model performance:
Operates with supply voltages as low as 9.6 Vdc (after initial power-up at 15 Vdc or higher) and up to 77 Vdc for 5 minutes, or 120 Vdc for 0.1 seconds—without damage or significant control transients
Normal operating power: 20–45 Vdc
High-voltage model performance:
Operates with supply voltages as low as 75 Vdc (60 Vac) and up to 200 Vdc (140 Vac) for 5 minutes, or 300 Vdc (212 Vac) for 0.1 seconds—without damage or significant control transients
Normal operating power: 90–150 Vdc or 88–132 Vac
Speed sensor monitoring: A dedicated circuit detects loss of speed signal and triggers a minimum fuel demand; an optional override switch is available for startup scenarios
Selectable speed control mode: Isochronous or droop speed control can be activated via an optional switch or relay (connected in series with the circuit breaker auxiliary contact and terminal 14 on the control)
Load sharing capability: Supports isochronous load sharing between multiple 2301A systems or other Woodward electronic load-sharing controls via load-sharing lines
Adjustable speed parameters: Idle speed, rated speed, and acceleration rates (0 to 10 seconds) between idle and rated speed are fully configurable
