Woodward 8237-1247 Control Module – Operational Procedure
1. Pre-Operation Safety
CRITICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- De-energize all power sources (LOTO per OSHA 1910.147)
- Bleed hydraulic/pneumatic pressure below 5 psig (ANSI B31.3)
- Verify ESD protection (wrist strap 1MΩ, ANSI/ESD S20.20)
- Check ambient conditions:
- Temperature: -40°C to +85°C (derate above 70°C)
- Humidity: 5-95% non-condensing (IEC 60068-2-30)
2. Mechanical Installation

Spacing Requirements:
- Lateral clearance: ≥25mm from adjacent modules
- Vertical clearance: ≥50mm for heat dissipation
- Mounting orientation: Vertical ±15°
3. Electrical Connections

Cabling Requirements:
- Separation: >150mm from AC power lines
- Conduit: EMT with bonding jumper (NEC 250.97)
4. Initial Commissioning
Sequential Startup:
- Apply control power (+24VDC)
- Verify PWR LED solid green
- Initialize communication:

Modbus address: DIP SW1 (default 01)
Baud rate: SW2-UP = 19200 baud
- Calibrate analog inputs:
- Send 4mA signal → Press CAL button for 3s
- Send 20mA signal → Press CAL again
- Perform self-test:
- Activate test mode: Modbus register 40001 = 0x55AA
- Verify all LEDs cycle for 5 seconds
5. Operational Diagnostics
LED Status Interpretation:

Fault Reset Procedure:
- Cycle power OR
- Send Modbus command: Register 40002 = 0xFFFF

8. Critical Warnings
