Description

8020-0450 ZYGO Operation Guide

1. Introduction
The 8020-0450 ZYGO is a high-precision optical measurement instrument designed for accurate surface profile analysis, flatness testing, and optical component inspection. This guide provides detailed operational procedures, safety precautions, and basic maintenance instructions to ensure the instrument operates efficiently and reliably. Before using the instrument, please read this guide thoroughly and follow all operational requirements.
2. Safety Precautions
2.1 General Safety Requirements
Only trained and authorized personnel are allowed to operate the 8020-0450 ZYGO. Before operation, check whether the instrument is in good condition, including the power supply, connecting cables, and optical components. Ensure the operating environment meets the specified requirements: temperature range of 20±2°C, relative humidity of 40%-60%, and no strong electromagnetic interference, vibration, or dust.
Do not disassemble, modify, or refit any part of the instrument without permission. In case of abnormal phenomena (such as abnormal noise, smoke, or error messages) during operation, immediately turn off the power supply, disconnect the power cord, and contact professional maintenance personnel for inspection and repair.
2.2 Optical Component Protection
The optical components (lenses, mirrors, etc.) of the instrument are precision parts. Avoid touching the optical surfaces with hands or other objects. When cleaning, use special optical cleaning tools and reagents. Do not use harsh solvents or abrasive materials to prevent scratching the optical surfaces. When the instrument is not in use, cover the optical components with dust covers to prevent dust accumulation.

3. Pre-Operation Preparation
3.1 Environmental Check
Verify that the operating environment meets the requirements: check the temperature and humidity of the laboratory, ensure there is no direct sunlight, strong airflow, or vibration sources near the instrument. Confirm that the power supply voltage is stable and matches the instrument’s rated voltage (refer to the instrument nameplate for specific parameters).
3.2 Instrument Inspection
Visually inspect the instrument’s external appearance for damage or looseness. Check the connection status of all cables (power cable, data cable, etc.) to ensure they are firmly connected and not damaged. Check the cleanliness of the optical components; if there is dust or stains, clean them according to the requirements in Section 2.2.
3.3 Power-On Check
Connect the power cord to the instrument and the power socket, then turn on the main power switch of the instrument. Observe whether the instrument’s indicator lights are on normally and whether the display screen starts up correctly. Wait for the instrument to complete the self-check process (usually 2-3 minutes). If the self-check fails, the instrument will display an error code; refer to Section 7 for error handling.
4. Basic Operation Procedures
4.1 Sample Loading
Ensure the instrument is in the standby state before loading the sample. Adjust the sample stage to a suitable height and position using the control panel or software. Place the sample on the sample stage gently, ensuring it is flat and stable, and does not collide with the optical components. Use the clamping device (if applicable) to fix the sample to prevent displacement during measurement.
4.2 Parameter Setting
Start the ZYGO measurement software on the connected computer. Select the appropriate measurement mode and parameters according to the sample characteristics and measurement requirements, including measurement range, resolution, accuracy level, and measurement speed. For standard samples, you can directly call the preset parameter templates; for special samples, set the parameters manually and save them for future use.

4.3 Measurement Execution
After completing the parameter setting, confirm that the sample and instrument are in the correct state, then click the “Start Measurement” button in the software or press the corresponding button on the instrument control panel. During the measurement process, do not touch the instrument, sample, or connecting cables to avoid affecting the measurement results. The instrument will automatically complete the data collection and calculation, and the measurement results will be displayed on the software interface.
4.4 Result Viewing and Saving
After the measurement is completed, check the measurement results on the software interface, including surface profile diagrams, flatness data, and other relevant parameters. If the results meet the requirements, save the data to the specified directory; you can choose to save it in formats such as CSV, PDF, or image. If the results are abnormal, check the sample, parameters, and instrument status, and re-measure if necessary.
4.5 Sample Unloading
After the measurement and data saving are completed, adjust the sample stage to a safe position. Turn off the measurement function in the software, then gently take out the sample from the sample stage. Clean the sample stage and clamping device to remove any debris or stains.
5. Shutdown Procedures
First, close the ZYGO measurement software on the computer. Then, turn off the main power switch of the instrument and disconnect the power cord from the power socket. Clean the instrument’s external surface and optical components, and cover the instrument with a dust cover. Organize the sample, data files, and operating tools to ensure the operating environment is tidy.
